About EPC.Report
What is EPC.Report?
EPC.Report provides free, accessible energy performance data for properties across England and Wales. We aggregate Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) data by postcode district and local authority, making it easy to understand the energy efficiency of homes in any area.
Data Source
All data comes from the official EPC Open Data Register, maintained by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). This data is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Methodology
We process the raw EPC data to calculate aggregated statistics for each postcode district and local authority. Key metrics include average energy efficiency scores, rating distributions, and the most commonly recommended improvements. Where a property has multiple certificates, we use the most recent one.
Update Frequency
We refresh our data quarterly to reflect newly lodged EPC certificates. The date of the last update is shown on individual district pages.
Limitations
EPC ratings are based on standardised assessments and may not reflect actual energy usage. An EPC is valid for 10 years, so some certificates in the dataset may not represent a property's current condition if improvements have been made since the assessment. Our aggregated data shows the overall picture for an area but individual properties will vary.
Data methodology
EPC.Report aggregates data from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) EPC Open Data Register. The dataset contains over 19 million unique Energy Performance Certificates issued for domestic properties in England and Wales.
Where multiple certificates exist for the same property (identified by Unique Property Reference Number), only the most recent certificate is used. District-level statistics are derived by grouping properties by their outward postcode (e.g. SW11, RG30).
Average scores, rating distributions, and improvement recommendations are calculated from certificates issued up to January 2026. Data is reviewed and updated quarterly as new certificates are published on the government register.
